Useful Notes For Broken Homes II

COIN STREET COMMUNITY BUILDERS

In 1977, faced with the prospect of having their area ‘developed’ in the style that has made the 1970s a byword for architectural brilliance, the good people of Coin Street formed an action committee and dug their heels in. By 1984, with the aid of the GLC who owned some of the land, they’d seen off the developers and formed Coin Street Community Builders.

In the years that followed they redeveloped the 5 hectare site with an emphasis on making it a good place to live for locals. A pair of world famous restaurants being an optional, but very tasty, extra.

The lesson of the Coin Street Action Committee is that when they arrive in your neighbourhood and try and push you around – resist. No matter what they tell you it’s possible to win.

The Coin Street Community Builders website is here.

My favourite little gem on the Southbank, is the Hopton Street almshouses. Love the gorgeous gated little homes, manicured lawn and roses, surrounded by high rise ultra modern buldings.

Just finished the book. Loved the little comments about Crawley and Brighton. Wished the book went on a little longer as the end was a little abrupt. Especially with the fact i have to wait ages for the next installment

I'm gonna remember that when I'm reading! I'm trying to read slowly because I KNOW I'll finish Broken Homes too quickly and be sad. It's not working. Book signing was great yesterday. I asked about magic messing up your mind but forgot to ask about incantations... never mind, next book signing.

wow, just finished reading Broken Homes. I love the description of London, I like saying I know where that is. The book is soo good, what a shock the ending is. I cannot wait for the next one.

This is the first time I have EVER contacted an author in any form, on social media or in email or... well anything. I will not befoul your blog with spoliers but I have just finished Broken Homes and I don't know how I am going to hold out for the next one... People discuss George R R Martins openness to remove major players from his series as a finely crafted ability to shock and awe his readers... You sir have just done just that with a far simpler and subtler action. I did not see that coming. My hat is well and truly off to you!

Aye, just to echo what other people have said... I didn't see that coming!

Nice to see a little of the South London though. I didn't know where Bernie Spain Gardens were when I was reading that section, until I looked up at a sign and realised I was sitting there.
