Someone had to comment on this, so I will repeat myself.
love it!
Dear Mr. Aaranovitch, I picked up "Midnight Riot" in the airport on December 21 and have fallen in love with Peter Grant. Thanks for hours of enjoyment.
I'm now imagining a school of magic that uses lolspeak as it's operating language...

Hello! The way you write about police procedure feels very authentic - the details seem very specific and convincing. How did you achieve this? Did you just do tons of reading research or did you meet cops or spend time with them on the job? (so to speak!). I'd be really interested to know if you don't mind. Thanks! Gina
All of the above plus making stuff up and hoping for the best,
Thank you Ben! Have just spent the amazing last 4 days in bed!! I really should add that I was ill - boo.... but luckily happened to have picked up Whispers, Moons and Rivers days previously, So its been a most enjoyable time being introduced to Peter and friends (ok and enemies too!!) Dont know why but my fav was Whispers :)
maybe because I loved the idea of the people living underground unbeknown to us?? Who knows, but
cant wait to get better and go get Broken Homes :)

Do not feel too bad about what your USA publishers did to the title of the first Grant book and to the cover designs of the first two... You are in very good company.
Take a look at what we have to put up with for covers of Terry Pratchett's books... I tend to have a friend in Cardiff send UK versions to me as they are published as I also do not have to wait for the delayed publication date they also stick us with... Just so you know I discovered your Grant books by reading your review of "Raising Steam" I then bought the kindle version of the first... Three hours later when I finished it I bought the rest (I had my Cardiff friend send me the new one as it will not be sold here till next month.... Keep up the good work great concept you have created in these.
My husband showed me this the day after I finished Broken Homes, and I laughed until I had tears in my eyes:
