I'm an American and find my self slightly obsessed by a linguistic question: how is the geographic name Slough pronounced? Does it rhyme with ruff, threw or slow? Or, given the quirks of English spelling (especially of proper nouns) does it manage to be pronounced in some way that is entirely different?

It rhymes with Plough. As in ' we plough the fields and scatter...' Or cow! The 'OW' part sounding like you voted for Trump and now realise how much it hurts...
